This 5 hour handling course covers specific information for those involved in the moving and handling of people. It provides all participants with the skills and knowledge to move people and loads in a safe and efficient manner.

People/Patient Moving and Handling Course

Why provide People Handling Training

  • Health and safety Legislation states that all employees involved in the handling of people/patients as part of their everyday duties should have adequate training and information.
  • Back injury still represents the number one cause of absenteeism from work and represents a significant cost to employees and employers.
  • In the social care and health and education sectors, handling people/patients poses a risk of injury for staff and the person/patient.
  • People handling is provided as part of a comprehensive programme to help reduce the risk of injury so far as is reasonably practicable

Course content

This is a 4.5 to 5 hour in-house course comprising theoretical and practical components. It can be customised to suit the needs of your business or clients. It includes the following.

  • Key information on current relevant Health and safety legislation, human rights and disability legislation.
  • The anatomy and function of the spine and musculoskeletal system and how to reduce the risk of injury.
  • The application of ergonomic principles to people handling procedures.
  • How to perform a manual handling risk assessment and implement control measures.
  • People handling assessments and handling plans.
  • The principles of safe handling.
  • Patient handling aids and techniques
  • Correct use of hoists and insertion of slings.
  • Successful participants will be awarded with a certificate only on  completion of a learning outcome assessment based on both the theory and practical elements of the course.
  • This will be valid for 2 years.
